Looking for new young filmmakers!

Do you know someone who fancies themselves the next big movie director like Gretta Gerwig or James Gunn? Do they know how to handle a phone and have exciting ideas they would like to express? If so My Journey has the ideal competition for them!

Aimed at all secondary school pupils, 11+, in Wokingham Borough, we are asking students to put together a 5 minute video on the benefits of active and sustainable travel. They can use this framework just as they wish, as long as it is promoting active ways of travel, such as walking, scooting or cycling. Motorised vehicles, including electric scooters, shouldn’t be included unless the video is highlighting their disadvantages. We also ask that language be kept respectful within the video.

Entries can be made from individuals, or from groups of up to ten people. A group could be a really good way of splitting out the different roles and responsibilities. As well as on screen personality, and camera operator, someone could look after the script, and someone else might be in charge of deciding where and at what time shots are filmed at. It would be a good idea to think about lighting and sound as well. While a busy road might illustrate the length of time a car journey can take, it will also be loud, and hard to hear any sound above the engines. In terms of equipment, videos from phones, either I-phone or android would be sufficient.

The closing date for this competition is midnight on 5th November, 2021.  Entries can either be given via pen drive to your teacher, or you can upload it to Dropbox or Google Drive and send the link to myjourney@wokingham.gov.uk. (If using Google Drive  be sure to click the permission box so anyone with the link can view the file.

And now for the most important question. Once we have received all these fantastic videos and judged them, what will the winner get? An online film school experience for themselves and up to 30 of their classmates, where they will learn new skills and tips to make their own movies. Check out our posters below for more information.

We can’t wait to see the videos!
