Anti-Idling Banners
Three of our borough air quality schools have been working really hard to produce a design to go onto their new anti-idling banners to reduce air pollution around their school. The new banners will be going up at the three schools which are, Wescott Infant School, Westende Junior and All Saints CoE Primary School very soon.
Kavalan, the material the banners are printed onto, are PVC-Free and phthalate-free and feature a biodegradable coating. Also, they weigh up to 50% less than traditional PVC banner, which significantly reduces carbon emissions during transportation. Kavalan can be disposed of without any harmful effects to health or the environment.
Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health in the UK, with between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths a year attributed to long-term exposure. There is strong evidence that air pollution causes the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and lung cancer, and exacerbates asthma. Children are especially vulnerable to air pollution as their lungs are still growing and developing
Please remember to always switch off your engine when you are stationary, especially at school drop off and pick up times. This will help reduce air pollution around the borough and when parked near a school.
