Evendons Primary School Wins Modeshift STARS Award

The Modeshift National School Travel Awards took place on the 17 March. The My Journey Wokingham team nominated two schools – Evendons Primary School and Wescott Infants School - for the awards and Evendons Primary School was chosen as the winner of the STARS Local Authority Primary Schools of the Year 2021/22 for Wokingham.

The school has worked very hard on their school travel plan and has earned a platinum level accreditation using the Modeshift STARS travel plan platform.  As part of this, they have completed over 70 activities to promote sustainable travel, including: bike and scooter training; taking part in events such as Walk to School Week and The Big Walk and Wheel; monitoring air quality around the school; and implementing a park and stride scheme.

As a result of the school’s hard work, the proportion of pupils travelling to school by car has fallen from 26% in 2018 to 14% in 2021.  Similarly, walking has risen from 37% in 2018 to nearly 49% in 2021.

Congratulations to both our nominees and to Evendons Primary School for winning the award.
