St Crispin's, Arborfield Green and Ryeish Green community events at leisure centres

On three consecutive Saturdays in Feb/March 2019 My Journey team supported community events at leisure centres for new residents in the nearby strategic development locations.

The centres offered free taster sessions such as badminton, table tennis, bouncy castle plus discounts on membership to tempt new customers to keep fit and healthy.  Sports and leisure team brought their programme information and offered blood pressure checks along with community engagement officers on hand with advice and freebies.  My Journey’s smoothie bike was kept busy with pedal power making free healthy fruit smoothies to add to the activities on the day, and engagement to encourage families to take up or increase their cycling or walking for, not just their health, but to make their journeys more active.

Though none of the events were packed, despite significant amounts of advertising to the new residents, there was a steady trickle of those showing interest to inform about My Journey activities and events, plus hi-vis goodies, with advice on how to keep safe whilst walking or cycling and breaking down the barriers to include more sustainable travel in their lives and make getting places a more enjoyable experience.
