Summer Bike Bonanza got children riding bikes

More than 40 people came along to the Summer Holiday Bike Bonanza at the new Floreat Montague Park Primary School in Wokingham on 29th August 2018 to have a go at cycling.

The My Journey team provided balance bikes and pedal bikes for people to borrow and some families also brought their own bikes along to join in the fun.  During the day our team of instructors ran: Balance bike sessions for younger children, Learn to Ride training for children ready to start riding a pedal bike and cycling skills and games for children who could already cycle completely.  At least four children actually learned to ride a pedal bike for the first time on the day, with their parents proudly watching them!

The smoothie bike was a popular attraction with lots of people making themselves a refreshing fruit smoothie by pedal power, whilst the My Journey stand offered sustainable travel information and free gifts to cyclists taking part in the event.

15 people brought their own bikes to be checked at the "Doctor Bike" surgery or had them security marked by the Council's community wardens.  Some families also learned how to fix a puncture at a workshop run by our bike mechanic.

Safer Roads Berkshire added to the fun by running a 60 second "golden bike" challenge for adults and a fun game for children involving wearing cycle helmets covered with velcro and catching soft balls on their heads!

The My Journey Team would like to thank everyone who came along to the event.
