Thinking of getting a folding bike?

Are you thinking of getting a folding bike?  Read about one of the My Journey team's experience of using a folding bike for the first time.

My first time riding a folding bike (Tern kindly loaned by Avanti) was a successful and enjoyable experience for a 10 mile ride!  It fitted nicely in the back of my little Honda Jazz and I managed to unfold easily (though folding up at the end of the ride was a different story… work in progress to learn the knack, I think!).  A beautiful sunny day with a breeze was the ticket for exploring Windsor Great Park and round Virginia Water.  As it was half term it was a little busy so much negotiation around pedestrians on the paths was needed… and social distancing was managed!  There was nowhere to grab a takeaway coffee or ice cream until we reached Bishopsgate where the Fox and Hounds were doing a roaring business!… we decided to avoid the queue and stick with water.

I was pleasantly surprised how easy the folding bike was to ride with a comfortable seat and tyres that could cope with some rough ground, as well as nifty on paths and roads.  I will certainly be using it again when I need to drive further away from home to ride somewhere different.  I had never seen the equestrian statue of Prince Albert before, overlooking the beautiful lawns of the Guards Polo Club which were being watered using huge hose reels and sprinklers!  Queen Victoria was known to frequently picnic at the borders of Virginia Water, which she loved from childhood and many families were taking advantage of doing the same round the lake.
