Welcome back to Balance Bike Club and Bikeability Learn to Ride

From April, we were delighted to be able to restart our Balance Bike and Bikeability Learn to Ride activities for younger children.

We began with 2 days in the Easter holidays, running some Learn to ride sessions for children with high functioning autism who were struggling to ride a pedal bike. These sessions were run outdoors at Montague Park, Wokingham and 5 out of the 6 children who attended were pedalling around the playground by the end of the course.

After the Easter holidays we restarted our Balance Bike Clubs for children aged 2 – 4 years at both the FBC centre, Finchampstead and Woodford Park Leisure Centre in Woodley, with a total of 25 children attending the clubs in the first 2 weeks. Although Balance Bike Club is free, we are asking people to book places online, so that we can limit the numbers.

Our very popular Bikeability Learn to Ride sessions have also been running after school for 2 weeks now, at both centres. At the FBC centre, 8 children so far have attended these sessions, with 6 of them successfully learning to ride a pedal bike within 2 sessions. At Woodford Park, 9 children have attended and 5 of them were riding well after just 1 or 2 sessions.

We look forward to helping more children this term and seeing their happy smiling faces when they realise that they can ride their bike without Mum or Dad holding on to them!
