Wokingham Air Quality Project

Following our new Wokingham Air Quality project, we now have four schools taking part in the project.  Three of the schools Evendons Primary School, St Paul's Junior School and Hawthorns Primary School have had three diffusion tubes placed outside their school to monitor Nitrogen Dioxide(NO2) across the year. N02 is one of the main pollutants that is emitted mostly from transport. In January, Westende Junior School will also be having their diffusion tubes fitted at the school.

The Wokingham Air Quality project's focus is to increase active travel and improve air quality in the Borough especially around schools near the air management areas for health and the environment. The air management areas are places where the quality of air caused by pollution is of more concern and usually due to traffic levels. The project will include strong partnerships with its schools and community members to deliver educational packs, events, activities, and competitions.

Diffusion tubes will be placed at the back, front and gate of each school to monitor current levels of NO2 and used for educational purposes for pupils to learn about.

The project will be delivered by our Eco Travel Officer, Chloe Ennis. Funding for this project has been provided by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and we working in partnership with Intelligent Health. We believe through collaboration and partnership throughout our community comes positive impact.

If you would like any further information on the project or have any questions, please email our Eco Travel Officer at: myjourney@wokingham.gov.uk
