Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to our health. Breathing in dirty air impacts us all and is linked to a range of health problems throughout our lives – from premature birth and childhood asthma to heart and lung disease, diabetes and strokes in later life.

Reducing levels of harmful air pollution in our communities will have immediate health benefits for us all, helping both children and adults live longer and healthier lives.

Cleaning up the air will not only improve everyone’s health, but it can also boost our local economy and help protect our natural environment.

Schools to take action for Clean Air Day

Our primary schools are gearing up for Clean Air Day on 18 June, with an exciting programme of activities run by our My Journey team and Volker Highways.

Pupils will take part in interactive assemblies and hands-on sessions to learn about air pollution and the impact of vehicle emissions on their health and environment.

A borough-wide anti-idling competition is also launching, inviting children to design bold posters encouraging drivers to switch off engines outside schools.

Winning designs will be turned into professional banners and displayed at school gates, helping spread the message to the wider community.  The winners will be announced in September.

This Clean Air Day, let’s come together to clean up the air in our community!
