Hand Held Air Quality Monitors
In December the My Journey Wokingham Air Quality Officer carried out some monitoring outside four of the borough's air quality schools with a hand held monitor. She stood at the school gates and walked a short distance away from the main entrance to measure levels of nitrogen dioxide, a pollutant found in vehicle emissions, at peak drop-off and pick-up times.
Several air quality schools are running ant-idling campaigns, as part of their work on their school travel plan, to encourage all parents and carers to switch off their engines at peak drop-off and pick-up times, to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
In November a hand held monitor was used by Year 5 pupils of Floreat Montague Primary School to measure nitrogen dioxide levels around their school during a pilot workshop run by us which we hope to roll out to more air quality schools in the borough.
Always remember to switch off your engine for cleaner air.
