Active Travel Map

Many students live within a reasonable walking or cycling distance to their school. To see how you can travel to school without a car, please look at the active travel map for planning your routes to school which can be found under Related Downloads

For families whose children will be attending Bohunt School Wokingham, the below travel advice has been compiled to help pupils travelling to the school.

Travelling from Finchampstead?

A pedestrian link will be available for use from Finchampstead. Pupils will be able to walk along Nine Mile Ride and onto Park Lane. A crossing is available on Park Lane, near the Robinson Crusoe mobile home park, to allow pupils to cross. They can then continue their journey onto Hogwood Lane, cross at the dropped kerbs and proceed along Byway 18 into the school. The byway has an improved surface and seasonal lighting (between 3pm and 6pm October to March) to ensure safety.

Alternatively, pupils can take the Leopard 3 bus which takes you to Sheerlands Road.

Travelling from Barkham?

It is suggested that pupils walk from Barkham along the Barkham Road and Langley Common Road.  They can then use the underpass from Rickman Close and walk down Bramshill Close, then follow the route from Sheerlands Road bus stop to the school.

It is suggested pupils walk to the junction with Whitehall Drive, and then cross Baird Road to the footpath opposite rather than walking directly down Sheerlands Road. There is a footpath by 18 Sheerlands Road that pupils can use. Pupils should not use the Sheerlands Road service road to walk to the school, but should follow the footpath straight across the road at the junction and continue to the school.

Pupils should cross Sheerlands Road shortly before the junction with the new Nine Mile Ride Extension. They should then turn left onto Nine Mile Ride Extension and follow the footway to the school.

The map in Related Downloads shows the recommended walking route from Barkham.

Travelling from Arborfield?

It is suggested that pupils walk along the A327 through Arborfield village, accompanied if necessary and cross Langley Common Road via the underpass at Rickman Close.  They can then walk down Bramshill Close and follow the route from Sheerlands Road bus stop to the school.

There is an alternative route also available via Link Way and School Road.  Parents should be aware that younger pupils walking to The Coombes School will also be travelling along this road in the opposite direction.  All pedestrians will need to take additional care on this part of the route.

Travelling from other areas?

For pupils travelling from other areas, pupils can travel on the Leopard 3 bus to and from Harvest Path Bus Stop on Nine Mile Ride Extension. The bus can be caught in Reading and Wokingham.

Cycle Training

If any pupils are thinking about cycling to school, Level 3 cycle training is available for those who have already completed Level 2 training to help equip riders with skills for more challenging road and traffic situations, and includes planning routes for safe cycling.  To help pupils with this, there is an after-school cycling club for pupils at Bohunt which will conduct a range of cycling activities including having Level 3 training available.

Bohunt School Wokingham is also the venue for a Cycle Club for young riders where coaching will be provided following the very successful British Cycling Go-Ride Scheme.   For details of this club please see www.sprockets.club.

For general enquiries about cycle training for children and adults in Wokingham Borough, please contact us.
