Reading Cycle Festival
My Journey supported Reading Cycle Festival on Christchurch Meadows by the river on a sunny Sunday in September, with many cycle related stalls to suit any keen or interested cyclist!
Our trusty smoothie bike had not stood up to being left so long during covid and was in a sad state with both wheels needing new inner tubes!... a timely reminder that bikes in storage need regular maintenance to keep them in good condition for riding!! There were queues for our smoothie bike once we were up and running again, with many compliments on how tasty the icy fruit smoothies were… our healthy drink made with pedal power was a good replacement for hot drinks when the coffee stall had run out of gas and were forced to close.
Thames Valley Police were busy with customers wanting their bikes security marked and we supplied some hi-vis rucksack covers to them to hand out when they completely ran dry of giveaways… it’s never too early to keep bright when cycling (or walking) so you are visible to drivers. Despite the event bringing in those already interested in bikes, we still gave out many cycle maps and information on our activities for families to book onto and, as always, parents were happy to hear of our learn to ride sessions to get kids off stabilisers and riding their bikes independently.
A good day was had by all and free lunch and Mr Whippy ice cream was gratefully received by stall holders, along with the entertainment from the live band (and unintentional entertainment with those brave enough to try out the unicycles!).
